Boone County seeks hosts for Rural Treasures Farm Tour
BURLINGTON, KY (04 January 2012) The Boone County Farm Initiative is seeking Boone County agricultural producers who would be willing to open their farm to visitors on Saturday, June 30, 2012. Organizers envision the tour as a way to promote the diversity and value of Boone County’s agriculture. The tour will build on the recently completed farm study, Rural Treasure, to show the economic, environmental and cultural values of agriculture to Boone County’s residents. Rose Bunger, chair of the Boone County Farm Initiative, said “Agriculture is a vital part of Boone County. We want to provide a way for people to visit our county’s diverse agricultural operations so they can learn more about where their food and fibre is produced.”
The Farm Tour Committee includes representatives from the Boone County Cooperative Extension Service, Boone County Conservation District, Boone County Farm Bureau, Boone County Fiscal Court, Eagle Bend Alpaca Farm, and Thistlehair Farm.
Those who are interested in being a host farm or volunteering for the Rural Treasures Farm Tour should contact organizers by February 10, 2012 for an application. For more information or to obtain an application, please contact Rose Bunger at 859–384–4333, the Boone County Extension Service at 859–586–6101, or the Boone County Conservation District at 859–586–7903.
